Best Looks from the 2019 Paris Couture Week

The final leg of Fashion Month is here. As the Fall 2019 Paris Couture Week collections hit the runways in the French capital, we’re highlighting all the standout looks along the way. From Dior to Chanel, these are the runway looks that will shape next season’s biggest trends. Here are the Best Looks from the 2019 Paris Couture Week

Paris Couture Week 2019 Fall Winter

  1. Fendi: The Roman Colosseum formed the majestic backdrop for Fendi’s autumn/winter 2019 couture collection, which was dedicated to its late creative director, Karl Lagerfeld. Venturini Fendi showed 54 looks, one for each year of Lagerfeld’s tenure, a subtle tribute that he himself surely would have approved of. The collection itself had two key inspirations – a book given to Fendi by Lagerfeld on Viennese Secessionists’ magazine Ver Sacrum – as well as Roman mosaics and ancient marble flooring.

  2. Valentino: Pierpaolo Piccioli showcased his personal Utopia, inspired by Irving Penn’s Worlds in a Small Room, his 1974 celebration of cultural diversity. Gigi Hadid, Adut Akech, Kaia Gerber, Mariacarla Boscono, Lauren Hutton, Lineisy Montero and Saskia de Brauw came together for a fantastical take on beauty, rendering normally jaded fashion editors to tears.

  3. Giorgio Armani: AW19 Armani Privé was all about the crystal, which embellished everything from see-through netted tops to voluminous tiered skirts, structured tweed jackets and elegant evening shoes. The designer explained in his show notes that he wanted to create “the impression of a clear water surface reflecting a ray of moonlight or sunlight”. There were references to the late ’80s too – both in the form of folky peasant frocks and the power dressing of the decade. All in all, it was a dazzling collection which is sure to be snapped up by the Hollywood ladies who were sat on the front row.

  4. Chanel: For Virginie Viard’s Chanel couture debut, the house transformed the Grand Palais into the Chanel library. There was a mixture of textures, colours and prints throughout the collection, with a clear spin on classic Chanel styles. Viard nodded to Karl Lagerfeld’s love of tweeds and classic shapes, but reimagined them with tulle details and floral appliques. There were prim and proper touches too, befitting of the library theme, including elegant spectacles, high-necked Edwardian ruffles and bow-embellished Victoriana pumps.

  5. Ralph & Russo: Making the most of the Paris sunshine, Ralph & Russo presented its couture autumn/winter 2019 collection in the grounds of the Embassy of the United Kingdom, where it showcased 1930s, Art Deco-inspired creations. There were evening gowns draped across the body with just a single string of pearls, influenced by French-Russian artist, Erté and his sculpture work, Les Bijoux de Perle. This sat alongside bright, colorful ballgowns, structured black cocktail dresses, intricately detailed suiting and the most show-stopping of couture wedding dresses.
