Ganpati Visarjan Dates 2016

Ganpati is finally here and no other festival can be more elaborate than Ganesha arrival in MUMBAI. Ganpati is a 11 days festival across india and overseas but celebrated with great pomp in mumbai that can bring traffic to a stand still as the streets are engrossed in heavy traffic for the immersion of the idol.

Ganpati Immersion dates 2016

Ganesh Festival or as loving said ganpati comes to mumbai on September 5 2016 this year. The city is already decked up with pandas and decoration to welcome the elephant god. Various homes and areas host the ganpati for 10 days. The festival begins with bringing the ganpati home and then bidding audieu by immersing it in the water/ river or sea. I know you might think this could damage the environment but we will come to it later. The immersion dates generally are marked as holidays in mumbai as the traffic is packed and there is no scope of driving trough the city. Below are the dates for immersion in mumbai for ganpati in 2016.

  • One and half day Ganesh Visarjan – September 6, 2016. The one and half day ganpati visarjan is not a busy affair as generally the ganaptis are small and its mostly the home owners who opt to say goodbye after hosting the ganapti for 1.5 days.
  • Three day Ganesh Visarjan – September 7, 2016. The 3 days ganpati visarjan can be little busy so you can avoid the beach areas like juhu, versova & chowpaty.
  • Five day Ganesh Visarjan – September 9, 2016. This is a busy day for ganpati visarjan as medium sized ganpatis are headed for immersion.
  • Seven day Ganesh Visarjan – September 11, 2016. Despite being the 7th day the ganpati visarjan is not that busy as people mostly host the ganpati for 3 extra days and do the immersion on the 10th day.
  • Anant Chaturdashi last and biggest day of Ganesh Visarjan – September 15, 2016. the grandest of all days and also he final day of immersion. the city comes to a stand till post 1300 hrs. the streets are jammed packed with huge idols being ferried and people dancing and celebrating with glory to mark the ganpati.

Enviornment hazards of visarjan

Immersing so many idols into the sea does affect the environment and is a matter of concern. But this year there are lot of eco friendly ganpatis that are being sold but due tot he expensive nature of them its being ignored. Ideally the government should make it mandatory to follow strict eco friendly ganpati’s and also charge a hefty fees for immersion which can be used to clean the beach and safe guard environment. This will make people more responsible and lot of manual would get into pooling in order to bring the Ganesh god. Sometimes one does feels as there are 3 standees across each other celebrating the festival. Ideallyt hey could all pool up and bring one idol of god. Im sure Ganesha would be proud and bless them all equally 🙂 until then Ganpati Bappy moraya! Watch out for the ganpati visarjan immersion dates to avoid crazy traffic or to enjoy the festive sea on both.
