So mark his playful nature every year in mumbai various streets and areas have Janmashtami celebrations. An earthed pot is suspended high in air about 20 feet high from the ground and this pot is filled with butter & curds. Teams of people arrive and form Human pyramids to reach the top and break the earthen pot. Every group is lawed 3 turns. If they fail then the next group gets a turn. The group which successfully breaks the earthen pot get the price money along with the trophy. The price money can be from anywhere 50000 INR (USD1000) to about INR 500000 (USD 10000). The various teams that compete for this festival move all around the city to try their luck and the final money is distributed among the team mates.

Supreme court Ruling for Janmashtami

Every year there were lot of causalities due to the risky nature of celebrations. The earthen pits were hung couple of storeys high some as high as a 6 storey building putting to risk the lives of many people who would participate. Also the participation involved kids as they would be lighter to be balanced and they would easily scramble to the top. But since 2016 the supreme court of India has made a much necessary mandate restricting the height of the pot to be not above 20 feet and all participants must be 18 years. This is also enforced by law and the police are required to ensure no participant is below 18 years else the organiser along with the team mates and police could fall into trouble and be penalised by law.

All though lot of people welcomes the move but the government but there were some disappointed teams who had lot of younger participants but anything is fair in the name of preventions to casualty and life.
